About
John Hoffoss was born a military brat in 1981. He’s lived all over the world, settling in Twincy. He earned a BS in computer science from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. In 2004, he became a GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH), and in 2008, he became a Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP).
He and his energetic wife live in South Minneapolis—Minnehaha to be precise—and he works in Saint Paul securing technology and data in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System.
He is something of a renaissance man—interested and talented in many areas, reserved, and humble. Except when he’s trying to be funny. Then he’s not so humble. Some of the accomplishments he’s enjoyed thus far:
- lived or traveled in the vicinity of: 21D, ADK, ANK, ATL, DUB, FRA, FRM, GVA, HON, MSP, NOT, NRT, ORD, PMB, PME, RAP, SEA, SFO, SNN, SXQ, UGN
- demolished and rebuilt a dormer on a friend’s house (with said friend)
- completely removed and rebuilt the roof of the family cabin (with said family)
- served on the board for the U of M campus chapter of Habitat For Humanity, where he helped raise funds to sponsor the complete remodel of one home, sponsor the complete construction of another home, and helped on countless other builds (with friends, Habitat homeowners, and strangers too numerous to count)
- built a lovely combination spice rack/trash can/chalkboard/charging station/bookshelf/recipe box cabinet as a Christmas present (finished less than two years after Christmas!)
- photographed a wedding (and even got paid!)
- gone skydiving
- cycled hundreds of miles
- motorcycled thousands more
